Dhoni shares his passion for royal enfield with bikers' group

To have something in common with the Indian cricket team's captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni can be any fan's dream. Members of city-based bikers' group Road Survivors got to live that when they met Dhoni, who agreed to meet them after going through a report about them in Times of India on Wednesday. The avid bikers talked to him about his love for motorcycles. They also gifted a T-shirt of their club to Dhoni at Taj hotel.

However, MSD politely turned down their request to join the club saying he did not have much time for biking anymore. Nine members of the club reached the hotel at around 12.30pm. Initially, cops turned down their demand of meeting Dhoni as they claimed he was meditating. Luckily for them, the bikers met a member of Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who then got in touch with the champion.

One of the club's members, Aditya Mohan, said the CSK squad member told them that Dhoni had read the TOI report, which had mentioned that they wanted to meet him.

''He said Dhoni was coming to meet us. We were delighted to know that we would finally get to see him. After about 30 minutes, Dhoni arrived and spoke about his passion for biking,' Aditya said.

Dhoni told members of Road Survivors (also known as Chandigarh Royal Enfield Club) that he owned a Royal Enfield Machismo and loved to ride his Rajdoot 350 whenever he got time. ''MSD enquired about the club and its expeditions. He was interested in knowing when we rode and how many members we had,' Aditya added. Dhoni also asked the motorcyclists about their Ladakh trips as they gifted him a key chain they had brought from there.

One of the bikers, Mohali-based Manpreet Walia, also handed a vuvuzela made in his factory to the Indian captain. They also had a four-year-old with them, who gifted Dhoni a drawing made by him as MSD left for a team meeting. source : times of india

THE ENFIELD CLASSIC NOW ROARS!
New Enfield Classic is out; prices start at Rs 1.24 lakh
Ever since we saw the new Royal Enfield Classic being unveiled at an overseas motor show, we have cursed our luck and have been waiting anxiously for the bike to go on sale in India as well. Now, that wish has been granted, for Royal Enfield has unveiled the Classic 500 and 350 in Delhi.

For a price of Rs 98,000, ex-showroom, Delhi, the 350 is much cheaper than we anticipated, while the Classic 500 at Rs 1.24 lakh is another steal. If you're wondering what powers the 350, well, there are no prizes for guessing that the mill from the Thunderbird Twinspark would be the answer.

The Classic features timeless old school styling with a healthy dosage of new-age technology. Fuel injection is being offered on the Bullet for the first time ever in the country and power and torque figures have improved too. For the 350, power has gone up from 18 bhp to 19.8 bhp, while torque has actually gone down to 2.9 kgm from 3.3 kgm. Relaxed and comfortable cruising at over 100 kph all day is now a distinct possibility.

With the 500, power has gone up to 27.2 bhp from 22 bhp, while torque now stands at 4.2 kgm.

The wheel rims on the Classic have shrunk to 18-inch jobs from 19-inchers. That gives you the freedom to choose from a larger variety of tyres that are made of that size, besides changing the gearing.

History of the Royal Enfield Bullet

The Royal Enfield Bullet, in its present form, was first introduced in Britain in 1949 as a 350cc bike. It incorporated an innovative design element: swing arm suspension. This feature along with its extremely strong single cylinder engine allowed it to excel as a trials bike. The 500cc model was introduced in Britain during the 1950's, winning hundreds of races. This brought the Bullet international recognition and orders came into the factory in Redditch, England from all over the world.
Production

In 1954 the Indian government placed an order for 800 Bullets for "immediate service" on the Pakistani border. This order placed an incredible burden on the factory, but it was met. The Bullet proved very successful in India, and the government placed orders for 1955 and 1956 of a similar magnitude. This caused the home factory to make the decision to set up a factory in India.
In 1955 an Indian partner was found and trainees were sent to Redditch to learn the production methods. At first, knock down units were shipped to Madras where they were assembled. By 1956 a full factory had been established in India and the Enfield India, Ltd. began producing the Enfield Bullet in its entirety. In India they produced the machine they had been trained to make, the 1955 Bullet. They made the same bike in 1955, 1966, 1976, 1986, and 2006! The demand for this great old motorcycle has never stopped. Every year they have produced over 30,000 motorcycles, all a 1955 Bullet.
The Bullet is made today in the same manner it was in 1955. However over the years improved metallurgy, modern machining methods and the passage of time has produced stronger, more durable parts, making the Bullet superior, in some ways to the same bike made in 1955.
